Conventional vs Digital Impressions
No more goop, gagging, discomfort, or gooey mess of standard impressions! At Bernstein Orthodontics, we use the iTero digital impression system in Cary, NC, to take a highly accurate digital impression of your teeth and jaw. This iTero scanner, the new intraoral scanning technology, eliminates the tray and putty impressions of the old technique.
The conventional technique is incredibly unpleasant and frequently takes multiple rounds of impressions that can be misplaced, broken, or rejected. The iTero digital impression system ensures a more accurate image, resulting in a more comfortable patient experience and improved treatment. Digital impressions also allow you to see your teeth instantly in 3D, thus improving communication with your orthodontist during the treatment and consultation.
How Does iTero Digital Impression System Work?
The iTero scanner is a compact, hand-held device. It digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. The moment Dr. Bernstein starts the scanning process, they can stop and restart it as many times as necessary.
The technology scans your mouth in two to three minutes with a radiation-free laser; the laser then renders a digitally perfect, 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures. Thanks to digital software, you’ll be able to follow the scanning progress, including a 3D model of your teeth on our computer screen. We use the iTero scanner for several orthodontic treatments, including finding the best fit for your Invisalign®!
